in a good school or public library you would also find a person (sometimes referred to as a librarian) who actually knows the books, has read the books, can lead you to other books that will connect to your questions, interests.....rather than the part-time, underpaid, under trained, over caffeinated employee who was thrown in the kids section because their co-worker called in sick....well I could go on.

I love the bn.com website - it has more editorial reviews than Amazon and often has videos of the authors.. I have finally trained myself to stop typing in Amazon automatically, and instead I use bn.com for research about new books. Sometimes a book looks great but I cannot remember if I can recommend it to a 7-8th grade class, or if it is more suited for high school. Bn.com now has more editorial reviews than Amazon - a great resource. No online coffee though.
